Remote hiring happens across borders and screens, which makes identity and destination checks especially important. A familiar board logo is a discovery signal, not proof of every employer interaction that follows.

Match the destination

Open the final application page and compare the employer name, job title, location and requisition details. Prefer an employer-controlled career domain or a clearly identified applicant-tracking provider. Be cautious with shortened links and unrelated domains.

Navigate independently

Find the company’s official website through an independent search and open its careers page from there. Confirm the role appears with consistent terms. Inspect the company’s legal identity, current product activity and genuine employee presence.

Authenticate communication

Recruiter addresses should match the employer or a disclosed agency. A copied name and profile photo are not enough. Verify unexpected messages through a channel published on the official website.

Reject payment requests

Do not pay for an offer, interview, equipment shipment, background check, software license or training. Do not deposit a check and return part of the money, buy gift cards or send cryptocurrency for a hiring process.

Limit personal data

Early applications rarely need bank details, government identity documents or a full home address. Share sensitive onboarding information only after the employer is confirmed and through a secure process you understand.

Record and report

Save the source URL, destination, contact details and discrepancy. Report suspicious listings to the board and the impersonated company using verified channels. Immediate financial loss or identity theft should also be reported to the appropriate local authority.
